Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) remains as one of the world's best universities when it is listed in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020. UUM successfully ascended in the QS World University Rankings through the subject of Management and Business Studies when the subjects were listed in the 251-300 band for the 2020 edition compared to last year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said he was delighted that UUM quickly rose from the 301-350 band to the 251-300 band this year. According to him, this ranking placed UUM amongst the 1,494 top universities in the world rated based on the said two subjects which in one fell swoop listed among the 500 selected universities.

He said the notable surge was the result of the efforts of all UUM denizens in ensuring that the university's ranking was at its best in line with the aspiration of making UUM the 'We Are Global' university.

For the 2020 edition, the QS World University Rankings for the subjects of Management and Business Studies, four indicators: academic reputation (50 percent), employer reputation (30 percent), citation per-publication (10 percent) and H-Index (10 percent) were utilized.

In addition to Management and Business Studies, three other subjects remained in the QS University Rankings by Subject namely Social Sciences and Management in the 401-450 band, Accounting and Finance (251-300) and Economics and Econometrics (351-400).

In the latest edition, a total of 48 subjects were listed and grouped into five major areas: Art and Humanities, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Science, Social Science and Engineering and Technology.
