UUM IS TOP 110 IN QSWUR 2021: ASIA

Since being listed for the first time in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR): Asia back in 2013, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has consistently shown an upward trend until now when it successfully moved up to the 107th position in QSWUR 2021: Asia announced yesterday.

UUM managed to jump nine places from the 116th position in the previous edition, thus proving that UUM continues to strive hard every year to improve its standings to better position.

With the announcement, UUM is now ranked 9th out of 35 Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT) in Malaysia listed in QSWUR 2021: Asia.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani said the UUM brand has become well known and is recognized around the world especially when UUM is listed in the Top 110 Asia. This has indirectly increased UUM’s cooperation with the industry.

According to him, UUM will continue to consistently elevate the UUM brand to the international stage with the help of its position in the ranking.

He said, with the latest achievements in QSWUR 2021: Asia, it will also indirectly help attract foreign students, in addition to local students to pursue their studies at this university.

“We have shown that the academic programmes at UUM are of high quality and are recognized internationally, in addition to the network of collaborations with leading researchers.

"At this juncture, I would also like to extend my heartiest congratulations to all the UUM staff for their hard work and commitment in upholding the name of the university to the highest level," he said.

The QSWUR 2021: Asia adopts 11 indicators in evaluating a university, namely academic reputation, employer reputation, student to faculty ratio, number of staff with for Doctor of Philosophy (Phd) degree qualification, ratio of international faculty, ratio of international student, ration of external and internal student exchange, international research network, citations per academic staff / lecturer and papers per faculty.

This year, QS World University Rankings 2021: Asia listed 634 universities with 93 of them being listed for the first time.
